SHL Tests & Recruitment Processes For British Airways Non Piloting Staff

SHL Aptitude & Psychometric Tests are heavily used by British Airways. They are one of SHL's largest and longest standing clients and it is a relationship that seems to work very well for both companies. A typical non pilot applicant to British Airways will have to sit two SHL tests during the application process, though that number may be lower or higher depending on the position applied for and the level of seniority involved.

As with most companies, the first step to working at British Airways is to complete their online application form. Completing the initial form to a satisfactory level will either lead to an invitation to take some online SHL tests or to a first round assessment day. Applicants may be required to sit aptitude / psychometric tests at the assessment day instead of or in addition to taking them online prior to the assessment day. In addition to SHL tests, the assessment day may consist of elements such as presentations, research work, group work, role play exercises and interviews. Applicants who are successful in navigating through the assessment day may have to face a final interview or second assessment centre, depending on the role and the position being applied for.

BA have quite a good reputation for giving candidates an answer when they have reached the final stage so most of the time candidates will hear if they are successful within a few working days.

How Does British Airways use SHL Aptitude Testing When Hiring Non Piloting Staff?

As stated above, a typical applicant to BA (especially at graduate or management/senior level) will face at least two SHL tests during the length of their application process. These tests will most likely be the standard SHL combination of a numerical reasoning test and a verbal reasoning assessment. With typical SHL numerical reasoning tests, the standard format is twenty questions in twenty minutes. The verbal reasoning test may be longer and contain more questions. BA's use of aptitude tests is very similar to many other companies including TUI Travel, Tesco and Linklaters.

In addition to numerical and verbal assessments, British Airways will also sometimes ask candidates to take an SHL personality test to gauge their personality traits and characteristics.
